he Indragiri Hilir Police have arrested a farmer, Amat Isa alias Amat, of Teluk Gantang subdistrict, Kempas Jaya district, for allegedly burning land in the area.
'He was arrested on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at his house,' Indragiri Hilir Police spokesperson, Adj. Sr. Comr. Guntur Aryo Tejo, said on Thursday.
The arrest was made after the police received information about a land fire in the Tanjung Simpang subdistrict, Pelangiran district, Indragiri Hilir, Riau.
It later came to be known that the fire started on land that Amat managed. Amat reportedly told his son-in-law Anton to inform residents that the land was on fire and that the flames could not be controlled.
Riau Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that hundreds of hectares of forest and land in the Teluk Meranti district, Pelalawan regency, had been on fire for the last week, creating haze over the local area.
