President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo has vowed to stop sending Indonesians to work as housemaids abroad, because the poor treatment they receive is humiliating for the nation.

The President, however, apparently did not realize that the situation at home is no better.

Speaking at a congress of the Hanura Party in Surakarta, Central Java, over the weekend, the President said he felt humiliated during a recent visit to Malaysia when he raised the issue of Indonesian migrant workers, including housemaids, with his host Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Your comments:

I'€™m so glad this was brought to light. It'€™s the old saying '€œbefore you criticize your neighbor, clean up your own yard'€.

The truth is a lot of countries have better laws and regulations to protect our people than our own country.

Also, we have to teach our people to respect and obey the law. Being an undocumented migrant automatically subjects you to abuse because you cannot seek legal protection. You'€™re illegal.

That'€™s a basic law in nearly every country in the world.
