he Foreign Ministry has recalled Indonesian ambassador-designate to Brazil, Toto Riyanto, in protest at Brasilia's delay in accepting the envoy's credentials on Friday, weeks after the execution of a Brazilian citizen at a prison in Central Java for drug smuggling.

The ministry stated that Jakarta could not accept the postponement after Toto had already been invited to the credentials ceremony.

"The Foreign Ministry regrets the Brazilian government's decision to suddenly delay the acceptance of the credentials after it invited ambassador-designate Toto Riyanto to the credentials-submission ceremony at the presidential palace at 9 a.m. [Brazil time]. The Indonesian government cannot accept the way the Brazilian foreign minister suddenly delayed the credentials acceptance after the ambassador-designate had arrived at the palace," the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Jakarta had also summoned the Brazilian ambassador to Indonesia on Friday night, '€œto deliver our strong protest at [Brazil'€™s] unfriendly act," said the statement sent to The Jakarta Post.

Last month, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said she was outraged at the execution of Brazilian drug-convict Marco Archer Cardoso Moreira and immediately recalled the Brazilian ambassador to Indonesia.

Another Brazilian national, Rodrigo Muxfeldt Gularte, is also facing the death penalty for drug trafficking offenses.

With regard to the delay in accepting the credentials, Rousseff said Brazil needed to evaluate the state of relations between the two countries. "What we did was delay a bit the acceptance of credentials, that's all," she told reporters after the credentials ceremony in Brasilia.

Rousseff accepted the credentials of envoys from El Salvador, Panama, Venezuela, Senegal and Greece on Friday.

The Foreign Ministry said Indonesia would return ambassador-designate Toto to Brazil after the schedule for the credentials acceptance was set. (+++++)
