Dinda Kirana Embracing the big screen

Dinda Kirana, a familiar face in popular FTV (television movies), is trying her luck with her debut feature film.

'€œI'€™m about to go into big screen movies by joining this film project called Sahabat Langit [Best Friends with the Sky]. [On Feb. 12], we will start filming,'€ said Dinda, 19, on the sidelines of a press junket prior to the start of film production in Jakarta recently.

In the movie, which is produced by Samarinda of East Kalimantan-based Maha Karya Sinema, Dinda will play Uta, a tomboy.

'€œI'€™m familiar with the character, because I personally like the sporty look. In the upcoming shooting, I have to act naturally '€” I mean, acting for feature films is definitely different from sinetron [soap operas] or FTV series, which requires actors to emphasize their gestures due to the small-sized screen,'€ said Dinda.

'€œIn films, actors have to be subtler and act, as every single movement is clearly seen on the big screen,'€œ she added.

After saying no to some film offers due to her busy schedule for FTV and sinetron, Dinda eventually agreed on Sahabat Langit.

She said the film had a unique storyline with educational messages for teenagers.

'€œI don'€™t find violence among teenagers a popular theme in our film industry. So, I believe this movie carries good messages such as '€˜let'€™s avoid violence'€™, '€˜never get too emotional'€™ and '€˜think before you act'€™,'€ added the daughter of Sumardi and Lia Priatiningsih.

The 16-day shoot will take place in Jakarta and Bogor, West Java. The film, directed by Bayu Pamungkas, is set to be released by the middle of the year.

Starting her career at such a tender age, Dinda entered the world of acting through the Wah Cantiknya (How Beautiful) sinetron in 2001 with Tamara Blezynski and Anjasmara. In 2003, she joined Inikah Rasanya (Is This How It Feels) with Alyssa Soebandono and Rifky Balweel.

At the age of 13, the public began to notice Dinda'€™s presence in the country'€™s entertainment industry through her performance in a hit teenage sinetron, titled Kepompong (Cocoon), in 2008-2009, as she played the leading role of Bebi.

Last year, Dinda played in at least three sinetron '€“ Tiba-tiba Cinta (Suddenly in Love), Detak Cinta (Beat of Love) and Putri Pete (Princess Green Stinky Bean), plus 12 FTVs.

In 2015, Dinda has been involved in at least two FTVs.

With a good list of sinetron and FTV work, Dinda said that she was no longer able to count how many she'€™d been involved in.

'€œWhat I can say is that I really enjoy acting '€“ I'€™ve been doing this for more than 10 good years. I'€™m really grateful,'€ said Dinda.

She looks up to prominent actor Reza Rahadian and says she doesn'€™t think too much about what kind of film she would like to do in the future.

'€œI just want to improve my performance in every project that I'€™m in '€” one thing at a time,'€ said the fan of Robert Downey, Jr. and Mila Kunis.

What'€™s matters for Dinda is receiving awards for her accomplishments in the entertainment world. So far, Dinda has collected an FTV Award in 2011 for favorite supporting actress and an SCTV Award in 2013 for the most popular leading actress.

Focusing her mind on work, Dinda admitted that she had to put her dream of going to college on hold for two years, but planned to go to university this year.

'€œI may enroll myself in business management, psychology or law. I prefer the first two though, because I want to be a businesswoman someday '€” knowing that I can'€™t have a long career in the entertainment world,'€ said Dinda, revealing that she acted to make money to build her own business in the future.
