24 countries to participate in President's Cup boxing tournament

s many as 126 boxers from 24 countries will take part in the President's Cup open international tournament, which will be held in Palembang, South Sumatra, from April 19 to 25.

"The 126 boxers have registered with the organizing committee. The figure is likely to increase as registration closes on April 1," deputy chief of the event's organizing committee Sulfa Ganie said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.

The 24 countries that the boxers represent include Bangladesh, Thailand, Australia, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Egypt, Bhutan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore and Syria, Ganie said.

Thailand, for example, will send 17 boxers, while Mongolia will send 18 boxers, the Philippines 17 boxers and Egypt 10 boxers to the tournament, he added.

According to the plan, Indonesia will send three teams of boxers, one of which will be from South Sumatra, the head of the South Sumatra chapter of the Indonesian Association of Amateur Boxers noted.

Ganie also pointed out that the organizing committee was awaiting confirmation from Laos, Macau and Kazakhstan, which had expressed interest in taking part in the tournament. (hhr)
