Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama inaugurated on Tuesday the Tambora low-cost apartment complex in West Jakarta.
"The construction of the low-cost apartments constitutes the realization of a healthy house program with cheap rent that we promote," Ahok said as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that the new facility was part of 120 low-cost apartments to be built by the city administration to accommodate residents whose houses have been affected by the city's spatial planning program.
"This facility is designed for residents with poor fortunes. It has become our duty to not only give services in health and education, but also residences," Basuki said.
Head of the housing and building office Ikan Lestari Aji said that after being inaugurated, hundreds of family heads who have been officially registered will be able to utilize the facility.
Ika explained that tenants of the apartments will be subject to rent of Rp 458,000 per month, including costs for elevator and park maintenance.
"It is the lowest rent because the Jakarta city administration subsidized up to 80 percent for each unit. All payment transactions for the rents will use the auto-debit facility of city-owned Bank DKI," she said.
The Tambora apartment complex was built on a 21,743-square-meter plot of land in 17 months from August 2013. It consists of three 16-story towers with a total of 549 units each measuring 30-square meters.
Together with the Tambora apartments, the governor also inaugurated three other low-cost apartment complexes in East Jakarta, namely Jatinegara Kaum apartments, Pulo Gebang apartments and Cipinang Besar Selatan apartments. (hhr)(++++)
