he legal team of two Australian drug convicts on death row has asked the Attorney General's Office delay their planned executions to respect the ongoing legal process.
Noted lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis said Wednesday that the attorney general would be in violation of the law if he insisted on going ahead with the executions.
'He will take an extremely big risk if he does not respect the legal process. If the attorney general doesn't respect the legal process, then who will?' Todung said after visiting Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran at Kerobokan Penitentiary in Bali.
After the Jakarta State Administrative Court (PTUN) rejected their lawsuit challenging a presidential decree rejecting their clemency bid, the legal team lodged an appeal. He said the appeal could be lodged within 14 days after Tuesday's hearing at the PTUN.
'The legal process will be ongoing for about one month,' Todung said.
'There is no way the attorney general can ignore the legal process. Indonesia is a state based on the law,' Todung said.
'I respect the attorney general, but the attorney general should also respect the ongoing legal process.'
'The world will see it as a brutal violation of the legal process [...] if the attorney general violates it, the world will not accept it,' Todung said.
Todung said both Chan and Sukumaran had been informed of the PTUN decision on Tuesday.
