he South Jakarta Transportation Agency will install solar panels in bus shelters throughout the municipality.
Agency head Priyanto said one of the first shelters to receive the panels was located in front of the South Jakarta municipality office. It would be made of aluminum equipped with a solar cell that could absorb solar energy.
'The energy will be converted into electricity,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Friday.
Priyanto said the power would be kept in a battery that would help light the shelter as well as provide enough power to charge cell phones.
He said he hoped all the 180 shelters in Jakarta would have the same facilities.
'We will use the 2015 city budget, but we are also open to private firms that want to fund the program,' he said.
