Two Indonesia warships, KRI Diponegoro and KRI Lambungmangkurat, were reported to have anchored in waters off Nusakambangan prison island on Monday.

Authorities said on Tuesday that the Indonesian Navy had dispatched the vessels to provide security between Denpasar, Bali, and Cilacap, Central Java.

KRI Diponegoro commander Lt. Col. Daru Cahyo Sumirat said the presence of the warships was aimed at showing readiness for any security risks ahead of the imminent execution of 10 death-row convicts at the Nusakambangan complex.

"This operation is part of our duty to maintain security in our waters. Moreover, executions of death-row inmates will be conducted at the Nusakambangan prison island under the close eye of the international community,'€ Catur told journalists in Cilacap. (ebf)(++++)
