eputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said on Tuesday that Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja was being treated at his private residence in Pluit, North Jakarta, after the latter tested positive for dengue fever.

Ahok did not show up for work on Monday after coming down with dengue fever, which is caused by an Aedes aegypti mosquito bite. After one is bitten by the mosquito, it takes between four and 10 days before symptoms surface. The most common signs are a high fever, severe headache, nausea, swollen glands and joint pain.

'€œI have been in contact with the governor. He is currently resting at home, not at the hospital. We all pray for a speedy recovery,'€ Djarot told reporters at City Hall.

The dengue fever season usually kicks in after the annual rainy season, as Aedes aegypti mosquitoes breed in stagnant water.
