Retno Listyarti - Tribunews
The Jakarta Police questioned on Tuesday SMA 3 state senior high school principal Retno Listyarti in relation to the suspension of five students.
Prior to the questioning, Retno told reporters she was shocked to learn that a school principal would have to face police questioning for upholding a school regulation.
'As far as I know, this is the first time a public officer has been summoned by police for upholding a regulation and teaching children,' Retno told reporters at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, the parents of some SMA 3 12th graders filed a police report with the Jakarta Police against Retno after she suspended their children for their alleged involvement in the brutal assault of a 30-year-old alumnus.
The parents said Retno violated an article of the Child Protection Law on discrimination against children. The article carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
