he North Sulawesi provincial administration is exporting five tons of cloves to Vietnam at an estimated value of US$4,500, head of North Sulawesi Industry and Trade Office Jenny Karouw said on Wednesday.
"The export is made possible due to the high demands for agricultural produces in Vietnam," Jenny said in Manado as quoted by Antara news agency.
Jenny said that the export of cloves to Vietnam shows the ASEAN market is in need of agricultural produces from North Sulawesi, which can utilize the existing opportunity.
She further said that diversification in marketing enables farmers to no longer solely rely on local buyers who purchase their produces at low prices.
However, she said that the good prices in the international market should be accompanied by well-maintained quality. (hhr)(+++)
