anpower Minister M. Hanif Dhakiri said he will limit the foreign workforce hoping to enter Indonesia in order to give an advantage to the domestic workforce.

'€œI am preparing a related regulation regarding the limitation of foreign workers, which would involve restrictions on foreign worker placement in several companies in Indonesia,'€ Hanif said in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.

According to the minister, foreign workers in domestic firms had to be regulated and controlled and had to be official and legal.

He specifically mentioned coal companies in Southern Kalimantan as companies that needed to regulate the number of foreign workers they employ.

One of the conditions in the proposed regulation, added Hanif, will require all foreign workers working in Indonesia to be able to speak the Indonesian language.

During his recent visit to South Kalimantan, he made an effort to get a sense for how many foreign workers are currently working in Indonesia.

'€œI have received much information on the apparent increase of foreign workers in the area, both from the public and from National Awakening Party (PKB) cadres in South Kalimantan,'€ said the former PKB party executive board secretary-general. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
