The Nyepi (Day of Silence) celebration across Bali has not stopped hospitality businesses from entertaining their guests.
Grand Istana Rama Hotel in the Kuta area, for instance, held a beer-drinking challenge on Saturday.
"I am very happy that I can participate in the beer challenge during Nyepi. Yesterday [Friday] I watched [the Balinese effigy] 'ogoh-ogoh' and now we are just staying at the hotel. This [beer] challenge is interesting," Katrine, a tourist from California, the US, said as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday.
According to Umu Kulsum, a staff member at the hotel, the participants had to drink as much beer as they could using straws.
"When we tell them to stop [drinking beer], they should start eating peanuts. After that, we tell them to start drinking the beer again," Umu explained.
She said that the winner of the challenge would receive a Balinese beach saroong while the losers would get vouchers for ice cream. (nfo)(++++)
