he rupiah interbank trade rate in Thursday's first trading session depreciated by 24 basis points to Rp 12,994 per US dollar from Rp 12,970 per dollar in the previous trade.
'The rupiah fell again in line with changes in expectation on a possible interest rate hike by the Fed. The rupiah decline followed a fall in the US data on durable goods orders,' said Reza Priyambada, chief researcher at the NH Korindo Securities Indonesia, in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
'The strengthening of world currencies against the US dollar is expected to push the rupiah back to a positive area,' Reza said.
PT Platon Niaga Berjangka analyst Lukman Leong said that in the long run the rupiah would still be supported by strong optimism in the government's ability to safeguard the economy to grow through issuance of structural reform policies.
'The economic structural reform will have a long-run impact so that in its development the rupiah fluctuation will remain stable,' Lukman said. (hhr)
