Jakartans may not be able to enjoy the first mass rapid transit (MRT) system in 2018, as previously scheduled, as its construction has been hampered by land acquisition issues in several areas of South Jakarta.
The head of the Jakarta governor's team for development acceleration, Sarwo 'Yani' Handayani, said recently that negotiations with land owners on Jl. Fatmawati had proved difficult and could cause delays for the construction of the MRT in that section.
Your comments:
There are 13 lines of the Shanghai Metro with 400 stations. Why don't the Indonesians just get the Chinese company to build one for them?
Even third-tier cities like Wuxi and Ningbo now have Metros in China. The world's worst traffic jam that is Jakarta is a disgrace.

I called a friend to find out why Singapore had no problems with 'land acquisition' for their MRT.
The answer was actually very simple: firstly, most of the lines are built underground.
The landowner above it does not own what's below.
Secondly, they have a law and an enforcement agency (the police force), which arrest anybody refusing the government's bids.
We have the same abusive police force but they only help themselves and in the process become exceptionally rich.
Besides, our people would not yield so easily, come what may!

Excuses, excuses. There was no problem with building Pertamina Tower or increasing the defense budget. It may be down to corruption; the government is unwilling to spend on something that would benefit the people.

And with not a single inch of land acquired to construct the six elevated highways in Jakarta, the person in-charge at Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) dared to inform a Malaysian giant developer that there was 'no problem!' Of course the investor wouldn't put his millions of US dollars on the table for such an unprofessional guarantee.
