inister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Susana Yambise is calling on churches and others to help reduce human trafficking in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), one of the five provinces with the most number of cases.
'The government cannot work alone, but must cooperate with many parties, including churches, to fight syndicates of human traffickers,' Yohana said while attending Easter celebrations in Kupang on Monday.
Besides NTT, the other four provinces that have a high record of human trafficking, including of women, are West Nusa Tenggara, East Java, Central Java and West Java.
Yohana said low education and a lack of skills among victims partly contributed to the trafficking cases.
Therefore, she said her ministry had set up women empowerment centers in the five provinces and in two other provinces, Papua and Maluku, to help improve skills and hopefully could reduce human trafficking cases.
