As the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is set to hold a congress to usher in a new board of management, talk is emerging on the future prospects of the party being led by the third-generation of Indonesia's founding father, Sukarno.
Puan Maharani, 41, Muhammad Prananda Prabowo, 43, and Puti Guntur Soekarno, 43, are among the new breed vying for the party's future leadership, as Sukarno's second child, Megawati Soekarnoputri, 68, is set to retain her crown, unchallenged, to lead the ruling party for another five years.
Your comments:
Sukarno was not a great president either. In the early 1960s, inflation in Indonesia was at 500-1000 percent and the majority of Indonesians were extremely poor.
In 1963, people in Java had the same per-capita gross domestic product (GDP) as those in Laos, a country of subsistence rice farmers.
Sukarno was a strong independence fighter who had no idea of how to run an economy.
His incompetence set the stage for a military coup that plunged Indonesia into 33 years of dictatorship and mass killings. Don't whitewash the history of this nation.

It seems ironic for a political party with the word 'democratic' to behave more like a dynasty. Sukarno was a great man indeed, but his descendants? Surely other members of the party are not that stupid.

Fortunately, I don't think this party will poll very well in the future. Over the years it will just slowly fade away.

The republic morphs into an oligarchy and finally a one-family dynasty a là North Korea. Congratulations to those who fought and died for 'merdeka'. This is your reward.
