wo Jakarta administration civil servants who were named suspects in the 2014 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) procurement case, Alex Usman and Zainal Soleman, have respectively resigned and been demoted from their positions.

Prior to the investigations, Alex was head of the facility and infrastructure unit at the South Jakarta Secondary Education Subagency. Zainal was head of the Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency.

'€œAlex has resigned and asked for an early pension. As for Zainal, we have demoted to staff,'€ Jakarta Employment Agency head Agus Suradika said as quoted by kompas.com.

Agus said that the city administration had prepared two officials to replace Alex and Zainal, who were named suspects on Mar. 30. The two were named suspects in relation to a case centering on UPS procurement for a number of state schools worth Rp 5.8 billion per unit in the 2014 city budget.

The case was previously handled by the Jakarta Police before being transferred to the National Police late last month. Investigators had questioned 130 witnessed before naming Alex and Zainal suspects. There are currently no other suspects in the case.
