he General Elections Commission (KPU) has warned conflicting political parties against leadership dualism that could threaten their participation in simultaneous local elections scheduled for December.
'Political parties developing internal conflicts face the risk of being disqualified from the local elections if they fail to settle their internal conflicts and they maintain the leadership dualism,' KPU commissioner Idha Budhiati said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
She said the KPU was preparing a ruling that would prohibit parties with dual leadership from registering with the polling body and its regional offices nationwide.
'The prohibition is found in the draft ruling and we have already disseminated this in a recent hearing with the House's Commission II on home affairs,' Idha said as quoted by kompas.com.
The Golkar Party occupying second place in the 2014 legislative elections and the United Development Party (PPP) have experienced splits, with the emergence of dual leadership following recent national congress.
Idha suggested that all conflicting parties settle their internal conflicts and reconcile soon to allow them to contest the local elections. (rms)(+++)
