olice have arrested on Friday two Bulgarian citizens for stealing money from an ATM on Jl. Kemang, South Jakarta.
'The suspects allegedly withdrew money from the machine by using empty cards,' South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Wahyu Hadiningrat said on Tuesday.
He said the suspects, identified only by NM and KR, both 44, were seen going in and out of the ATM booth on Friday at around 6 p.m. When they learned that they had attracted the attention of the security guards, they threw the money into the air and attempted to run away.
Police confiscated Rp 86,846,000 (US$6,689), data cables, one laptop, a skimmer and 146 plain cards.
South Jakarta police detective Adj. Comr. Audie Latuheru said the suspects had used the plain cards to withdraw the money.
'They put the skimmer at the ATM to get the PIN numbers of victims' ATM cards and connected it to the laptop to rewrite the data into the empty cards,' he said.
He said the suspects entered Indonesia under tourist visas and had only stayed for two days. Police will charge them with Law No. 11/2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) and Article 363 of the Criminal Code on robbery with a maximum of 10 years imprisonment.
