entral Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has said he would cleanse Nusakambangan Island of radical Islamic teachings in the near future, whether found within the island'€™s prisons or not.

'€œWe have received all the information and we acknowledge there are such activities there. Consequently, we have discussed the issue with all the security forces in Central Java, including the Indonesian Military [TNI], National Police, Central Java Law and Human Rights Office and other agencies to jointly handle the matter. We have submitted the outcome of the meeting to the home minister,'€ Ganjar told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

He said that as governor and representative of the central government in the province, he was obliged to overcome the situation on Nusakambangan.

'€œHowever, as the Nusakambangan prison island is under the authority of the Law and Human Rights Ministry, we will also coordinate on the issue with the Home Ministry and the Law and Human Rights Ministry, so everything can be resolved well,'€ said Ganjar.

He added that radical Islamic teachings, including from the Islamic State (IS) movement, should not be overlooked, including activities carried out by a group that illegally resides on Nusakambangan.
