The South Jakarta Police are investigating the recent murder of Deudeuh Alfi Sahrin, aka Empi, who was found dead in her rented room in Tebet, South Jakarta.

South Jakarta Criminal and Detective Unit chief Adj. Comr. Audie Latuheru said Tuesday that according to the preliminary investigation, it appeared that the victim knew her killer.

'€œSo far, we have concluded that the murder was committed by someone she knew,'€ he said.

Tebet Police chief Comr. I Ketut Sudarma said the police had collected physical evidence from Empi'€™s room, including a bed cover, socks that were used to gag her, an electric cable from a hair iron thought to have been used to strangle her, a condom containing seminal fluid, a book and a mobile phone.

The book, Ketut said, recorded various activities and mentioned a number of names. Despite the book being found in the victim'€™s room, he said investigators needed to determine that the book belonged to the victim.

Ketut said the autopsy result from Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital showed that the victim died from asphyxiation.

As of Tuesday, the police had questioned seven witnesses, including some of the victim'€™s friends and neighbors. They also checked her Twitter account @tataa_chubby.

'€œFrom the evidence, we confirmed that the account belonged to her,'€ he said.

The profile box on the account page mentions the account holder'€™s physical characteristics, such as height, weight, breast size and skin color as well as age, contact number, residential area and the rate of a certain service. It also published a set of rules she applied when renting out her services, including her text-message only policy, her day off, the obligation to use a condom, her preference to use her rented room and her demand for politeness.

The victim also repeatedly mentioned that it was the '€œreal account'€.

The account also shows sensual pictures of the victim and captured images of numerous mobiles phone screens displaying the testimonies of satisfied customers.

Separately, when asked if the murder could be linked to online prostitution, Jakarta Police Spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said the police had not ruled it out.

'€œWe can'€™t form a conclusion yet, but we will collect any evidence that leads to online prostitution,'€ he said.

Tribunnews.com reported that the victim'€™s rented room was located in a three-story building that had about 30 rooms that were available for rent to both men and women. According to the report, neighbors said it was common to see customers visiting prostitutes who lived in the building.

Regarding online prostitution, noted writer Remy Silado said the practice was a new technique applied to prostitution, which was an old phenomenon.

'€œMankind has a very old history of prostitution. This [online prostitution] is just another new form made possible by advancements in technology,'€ he said. (rbk)
