ozens of street vendors were relocated to Gandaria City Mall in South Jakarta on Wednesday. They occupied a spot on the first story of the shopping mall namely Istana Kuliner (culinary palace).

South Jakarta Mayor Syamsuddin Noor said during the opening ceremony the administration did not merely demolish illegal stalls, but trained affected street vendors and relocated their businesses to better places.

'€œIn this clean and tidy place, they can sell their products comfortably,'€ he said on Wednesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Each vendor got a 10 square meter space with a special rent rate of Rp 200,000 (US$15.60) per month for the first three months.

One of the vendors, Ahmad Nasir, expressed his happiness about getting his new place for business, saying that the place was clean.

'€œI previously opened my business on a sidewalk near this mall and now I can get more customers from the mall,'€ he said.
