National scene: Agung'€™s son refuses to be rotated

AKARTA: A member of the House of Representatives Commission I overseeing defense and foreign affairs, Dave Laksono, who is the son of embattled new Golkar chairman Agung Laksono, said that he would not accept the decision of a rival faction within the party to rotate him.

Dave said that he had written to the House Secretariat General that he would remain in Commission I. '€œI will stay in my position,'€ he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Golkar, which controls 91 of the 560 House seats, has been embroiled in a leadership dispute since late last year, after former deputy chairman Agung Laksono and his camp questioned the legitimacy of a national congress led by the then incumbent chairman Aburizal Bakrie on Bali.

After securing recognition from the party'€™s dispute tribunal, Agung'€™s chairmanship was confirmed by Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly on March 23.

Agung has also made moves to take control of House leadership positions previously held by Aburizal'€™s supporters.

Aburizal'€™s camp retaliated by deciding to rotate some of Agung'€™s supporters to new positions in the House.
