Anang calls for intellectual property law

M

usician and House of Representatives member Anang Hermansyah has called for the House to collaborate with artists on an antipiracy and intellectual rights protection working group to tackle the rampant problem of intellectual-property theft at a national level.

Anang said on the sidelines of a House plenary session on Friday that the time was right for artists and the House to work together to prevent the piracy of artistic output, arguing that such crime had harmed the welfare of Indonesian artists for too long.

'€œI urge the House to consider drafting an intellectual rights law and working group so that the government is able to work together with artists to combat this problem," the National Mandate Party (PAN) politician said.

"The House is a crucial player in tackling piracy, as doing so reinforces the idea that it is a modern, creative, accountable and transparent institution.'€

He added that now was the right time to bring the issue up at the House, since April 26 was World Intellectual Property Day.(nvn)(+++)
