Gang leader shot dead in Tamansari

The City Police shot dead a gang leader in a crackdown on a rental house in Tamansari, West Jakarta, early on Friday.

'€œOne of the suspects died after he was shot in his chest while six members of the gang were arrested for further investigation,'€ Antara news agency quoted the City Police'€™s chief detective Sr. Comr. Heru Pranoto as saying after the raid.

He said the police had to open fire on the house during the raid because the gang resisted arrest and fired several shots.

He added that the police launched the raid because the house had allegedly been used for a long time as a hiding place for a gang that committed violent motorcycle robberies. (rms)(+++)
