Director Hanung Bramantyo says he's started work on a biopic about the famed National Hero and feminist icon Raden Ayu Kartini.
'I want to contribute to Indonesian biopic films because they are important,' said Hanung, as reported by tribunnews.com on Thursday.
'My version will be more 'fresh' than the previous ones,' said the director of previous biopics about founding president Sukarno and Muhammadiyah founder Ahmad Dahlan.
Dian Sastrowardoyo will play the Kartini in the film, which has been slated for a release on Kartini Day, April 21, 2016.
To get an exact description of Kartini, Hanung said he got advice from the woman's family.
'The proceeds from the film will go the foundation managed by the family,' Hanung said.
