Guess what?: Hanung to make '€˜Kartini'€™ biopic

JP/Wendra Ajistyatama

Director Hanung Bramantyo says he'€™s started work on a biopic about the famed National Hero and feminist icon Raden Ayu Kartini.

'€œI want to contribute to Indonesian biopic films because they are important,'€ said Hanung, as reported by tribunnews.com on Thursday.

'€œMy version will be more '€˜fresh'€™ than the previous ones,'€ said the director of previous biopics about founding president Sukarno and Muhammadiyah founder Ahmad Dahlan.

Dian Sastrowardoyo will play the Kartini in the film, which has been slated for a release on Kartini Day, April 21, 2016.

To get an exact description of Kartini, Hanung said he got advice from the woman'€™s family.

'€œThe proceeds from the film will go the foundation managed by the family,'€ Hanung said.
