The latest film from director Lucky Kuswandi has been selected to screen at the Critics'€™ Week competition at the Cannes Film Festival next month.

Titled The Fox Exploits the Tiger'€™s Might, the short faced stiff competition: Only 11 films were selected for the competition out of 1,750 submissions.

The 34-year-old director has directed two commercially released feature films: the transgender superhero movie Madame X and the Citra-nominated Selamat Pagi, Malam (In the Absence of the Sun), which was named Best Feature by the Indonesian Film Directors Club in 2014.

The last time an Indonesian film competed at Cannes was in 1989, when Eross Djarot'€™s Tjoet Nja Dhien was in the features program.
