Far from the maddening crowds

Jakarta, please welcome Mazuki, the first ready-to-wear line from Miranda Mazuki.

Launched at Casa Domaine Marketing Gallery in Jakarta recently, Miranda named the first Mazuki capsule collection '€œComfortable Solitude'€, which carries a sense of peace that arises from self-seclusion.

'€œThe concept for the capsule collection came from my personal experience. The collection is about your kind of solitary area where you can feel very comfortable and you can find the beauty of being alone,'€ Miranda, who could not hide her nervousness during the launch, told the press.

Miranda, 21, spent her school years in Singapore before leaving for Los Angeles to pursue her fashion dreams.

At the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, Miranda earned several opportunities to work within international labels, including assisting in the visual department of Yves Saint Laurent in Beverly Hills.

In 2012, she graduated from FIDM and moved to New York.

In the Big Apple, Miranda nailed golden opportunities, such as interning at Jill Stuart International and working as a freelance knitwear consultant at Opening Ceremony.

In 2013, Miranda even had the chance to be a public relations intern at Valentino for the Golden Globe Awards.

'€œWhen I moved to NY, I didn'€™t know anyone there,'€ said Miranda, adding that her comfort zone was Los Angeles, where she has friends and family.

Miranda said that at first she felt lonely in New York; yet, for some reason, it also felt like home for her. She said that she was comfortable being in a completely solitary place '€” where there'€™s so many people in the city but one can feel very lonely there.

For the collection, Miranda translated those feelings into outfits that were practical.

'€œWhen you are working really hard, you cannot stare at the mirror fixing yourself for the whole day. You have to be focused on your job, so I feel like garments play a big part of that,'€ she said.

Mazuki'€™s first collection draws elements from abandoned buildings, emphasizing broken lines and asymmetrical geometry.

'€œI'€™ve always been very interested with how to make a garment and the inside detailsl of it. So, I play along with it and give it a go '€” that'€™s why I applied to FIDM and went to school there and also applied for a couple of internships,'€ said the designer, who loves drawings by Biyan and F. Budi.

Inspired by lines, '€œComfortable Solitude'€ is designed in challenge to the conventional ways of construction. Through monochromatic colors, the audience'€™s attention is directed toward silhouettes.

The collection embodies structured and geometric silhouettes with a relaxed fit. It is comprised of colors ranging from black, midnight blue, navy blue, cream to white.

Most garments are fully lined with a clean finish. Fabrics with soft hand-feel, such as Egyptian cotton, silk and wool blend were chosen to deliver comfort to the wearer.

Those qualities, said Miranda, would be preserved and remain integral to Mazuki'€™s identity as she develops more collections in the future.

For muses, Miranda said that her ideal individuals for her drawings were confident and independent people who were focused on their careers.

Based in Jakarta, Mazuki creates collections for men and women, ranging from tops, bottoms and dresses.

The brand aspires to cultivate an appreciation of details in a world of superfluous aesthetics.
