intu Sukumaran and Michael Chan have asked President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to forgive their relatives, namely Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, who are expected to be executed on Tuesday.
They urged President Jokowi to forgive the mistakes of the Australian ringleaders of the so-called Bali Nine drug ring so they can avoid execution.
Cintu and Michael made the statements during a press conference at the Wijaya Pura dock, which serves as a crossing terminal to Nusakambangan prison island on Sunday, after they visited the pair in their isolation cells at Besi prison, Nusakambangan.
"We, on behalf of our mom and dad, and on behalf of our entire family, seek to apologize to the President and Indonesian people for the mistakes our relatives have made. Please forgive us and please release them from their death sentences," said Cintu.
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) earlier announced that it would execute nine death row inmates on Nusakambangan prison island. The inmates are being held in their isolation cells in the Nusakambangan correctional facility. Initially, 10 death row inmates were reported to be due for execution but the latest information said one of the inmates, namely Serge Atlaoui from France, was not on the list of inmates facing the executions expected to be held on Tuesday.
The nine inmates are Chan and Sukumaran of Australia, Raheem Agbaje Salami (Nigeria), Zainal Abidin (Indonesia), Rodrigo Gularte (Brazil), Silvester Obiekwe Nwaolise alias Mustofa (Nigeria), Martin Anderson alias Belo (Ghana) and Okwudili Oyatanze (Nigeria).(ebf)(++++)
