team of lawyers representing Brazilian death-row inmate Rodrigo Gularte has expressed disappointment with the government, which is persisting with the execution of their client despite his alleged mental illness.
'Gularte is still very angry and incredulous. Everyone knows he has a mental illness,' Christina Widiantarti, a member of the team of lawyers, said at Wijayapura port in Cilacap, Central Java, on Sunday morning.
She said that her client had received a No. 9 notification, the last number. Condemned Frenchman Serge Areski Atlaoui has yet to receive a notification of his execution as he plans to submit a request for a second review of his case.
Christina explained that her side had obtained an authentic document declaring that her client had suffered from mental illness since 1982.
'We have collected several pieces of evidence and we expected the Attorney General's Office to cancel our client's execution,' she said as quoted by tribunnews.com. (rms)(++++)
