he lawyers for death row inmates facing imminent execution on Nusakambangan prison island are making last attempts to save their clients.
Edre Olalia, the lawyer of Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, a death row inmate from the Philippines, and Utomo Karim, the lawyer of Raheem Agbaje Salami of Nigeria, were seen to have repeatedly visited their clients at the Nusakambangan correctional facilities over the last two days.
"We, as lawyers, could not do anything more. Similarly, our client, Raheem, has accepted it [the upcoming execution] wholeheartedly. It seems that it is impossible for us to take another legal measure [to avoid execution]," said Utomo, after he visited Raheem in Nusakambangan on Sunday. He was accompanied by Raheem's girlfriend.
