ndonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) secretary-general Anton Subowo was unanimously elected late on Saturday in Wuhan, China as president of the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) for a four-year team.

Anton was elected after two other candidates, Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul of Thailand and Akhilesh Das Gupta of India, withdrew from the race and settled for two of the six vice president posts. Anton will replace Malaysia'€™s Mohd Nadzmi Bin Mohd Salleh.

'€œThis is the first time the BAC president was elected unanimously. This will have a positive impact on BAC,'€ Anton said in a statement.

He said that he was looking to further improve badminton in Asia.

'€œThere aren'€™t many badminton powerhouses in Asia. Out of 42 countries, only China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand and India have developed better than other countries.'€ Anton added.

He said that he wanted to expand badminton to the Middle East, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Kazakhstan. '€œIt will be better if each country has its own badminton league'€.

Anton was also inaugurated as vice president of the Badminton World Federation, continental representative.
