erman carmaker PT Mercedes-Benz Indonesia (MBI) has said it expects its sales to grow, despite the sluggish growth of the automotive industry, as the company celebrated its 45th anniversary on Monday.

MBI president and CEO Claus Weidner cited data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo) showing that the sales of passenger cars saw 14 percent decline this year, while the premium market saw 5 percent decline.

"We managed to sell 650 units in the first quarter this year despite the slow market. With the new lineup of the C-Class, we expect a sales boost until the end of the year," Weidner said at the Djakarta Theatre Ballroom in Central Jakarta on Monday.

The premium automotive maker launched the fourth generation of its C-Class series, consisting of the C 200 Avantgarde, C 250 Exclusive and C 250 AMG, marking the commemoration of MBI's 45th anniversary.

The division has also launched the CLA 45 AMG sporty sedan, which it describes as a '€œpioneer in the compact performance sedan segment".

The company's sales declined 4.97 percent from 684 unit sales in the first quarter last year and 1,082 units in 2013.(+++)
