enayan Lions secured their place in Division 1 next season with an eight-wicket thrashing of Division 2 winners Fez Rebels at GMIS in an elimination round fixture over the weekend.
Electing to bat first, Fez Rebels started briskly but a steady loss of wickets took its toll, as they reached 98/5 in 12 overs and 151/8 in 24 overs before being all out for 152 after 25 overs.
Warwick Peters top-scored with 53 while Cecil Jacob took 4 for 42 for the Lions, ably supported by Amar Kapadia, who picked up 2 for 25. With rain looming, the Lions went berserk with the bat and plundered 109/2 in the first 12 overs before storming to victory in the 15th over, ending on 155 without any further loss.
The game between defending champions WISCI Wanderers and Division 1 table-toppers Jakarta Barbarians was abandoned at Cibubur as rain stopped play during the Barbarians' chase with the game interestingly poised.
Batting first, the Wanderers slumped to 84/6 in 24 overs before recovering to 150 all out in 33.4 overs. JP Le Riche (43), skipper William Noronha (32) and Suhail Modak (25) propped up the batting with MVP contender Ben Burgess (4 for 26) and the ever-consistent Scott Masson (3 for 30) doing the bulk of the damage with the ball for the Barbarians. In reply, the Barbarians were 53 for 3 in the 14th over when the heavens opened, preventing any further play. The game is to be replayed next Saturday.
