The Jakarta Police have detained 33 Chinese nationals for having no adequate immigration documents.
"That's right, personnel of the Jakarta Police have detained 33 Chinese citizens for having no permits," Sr. Adj. Comr. Herry Heryawan of the Jakarta Police said Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The police raided a luxurious house that was accommodating the Chinese in South Jakarta on Wednesday evening.
Herry said the 14 females and 19 males were suspected of either being members of an online cyber crime syndicate, or victims of human trafficking.
In handling the case, the Jakarta Police will coordinate with the immigration office and the Chinese embassy in Jakarta. (hhr)
