he Indonesian Military (TNI) has found 20 hectares of cannabis plantations in Mandailing Natal (Madina), Mandailing regency, North Sumatra. The cannabis was planted together with chilli plants.
'We found the plantations, but no one was in the area. Maybe they escaped,' Lt. Col. Septa Viandi from Battalion 123/Rajawali told media.
The plantations were found in 15 spots in two villages: Simangambat and Hutatua. Military personnel burned the plants and searched for but did not find the owner.
Although they found no one in the area, the military discovered and confiscated sharp weapons, cell-phones and bamboo arrows.
'We assume the perpetrators were local farmers that wanted to boost their incomes by cultivating cannabis,' Septa said.
He added that based on information received, the cannabis would have been sold in South Sumatra and Riau. (naf)(++++)
