he administration's officers confiscated the ID cards of 19 people caught jaywalking in Kota Tua, Tamansari, West Jakarta, on Thursday.
Taman Sari district head Paris Limbong said that his team, working with the Jakarta Transportation Agency and the local police, had confiscated the ID cards to discipline careless pedestrians, whose acts, he claimed, frequently caused traffic jams.
'We have campaigned on safe crossing and using crossings last week. This week, we will uphold the regulation by confiscating violators' ID cards,' he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Paris revealed that most of the ID cards confiscated belonged to residents of areas outside West Jakarta, adding that he would send the ID cards to respective subdistrict heads for them to decide on suitable sanctions.
Pedestrian Sukisman of Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, admitted that he did not cross the road at the designated areas for practicality. 'The crossing is too far. I just cross the street [wherever I want] because it's faster that way,' he said.
