he Jakarta Police arrested 33 Chinese residents in a raid on a house in Cilandak, Pasar Minggu district, South Jakarta, on Wednesday night after receiving information about the presence of Chinese citizens allegedly involved in online prostitution.
One of the suspects died after jumping from the second floor when the police raided the house. As of Thursday, the police were still grilling the remaining suspects and had found initial evidence that they might be involved in cyber crime.
'The suspects were allegedly involved in cyber crime targeting Chinese people in their home country,' Jakarta Police violent crime sub-directorate unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Heryawan said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com, adding that the detainees had also breached immigration laws.
Police confiscated a number of notebooks, mobile phones, modem devices, printers, handheld transceivers and identity cards.
Herry said the Jakarta Police would, in its investigation, coordinate with the Immigration Office, the Chinese Embassy and the National Police's cybercrime unit.
