tate-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno has dismissed the president director of postal firm PT Pos Indonesia, Budi Setiawan, for allegedly being involved in a corruption case related to the procurement of portable data terminals.

"The policy to dismiss the president director of PT Pos Indonesia is aimed at upholding the ongoing legal process and giving him a chance to focus on his trial," the head of public communications for the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry, Teddy Purnama, said on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Purnama said shareholders of the state-owned postal company also have dismissed the company's director of technology and financial services, Budhi Setyawan, for his alleged part in the corruption case.

Earlier, the Attorney General's Office named Budi Setiawan and Budhi Setyawan as suspects in the alleged case of corruption related to the procurement of the portable data terminals in 2013.

The case involves the procurement of portable data terminals meant to facilitate control over the delivery of goods.

However, the devices did not function, thereby inflicting state losses amounting to Rp 10.5 billion (US$800,000).

Budi Setiawan and Budhi Setyawan assumed the posts of president director and technology and financial service director of PT Pos Indonesia, respectively, in July 2013. (hhr)
