Unlike his previous leadership style, reelected Democratic Party chairman and former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is set to directly manage the party after its national congress agreed on Wednesday to eliminate the position of executive chairman from the party's central board.

Speaking in front of the congress'€™ final plenary session, Democratic Party politician Denny Kailimang reported that the congress'€™ Commission A, which was assigned to review the party'€™s rules of association and internal bylaws(AD/ART), had unanimously supported the decision.

'€œ[The commission] agreed to eliminate the position of executive chairman from the Democratic Party'€™s organizational structure,'€ Denny, who served as the commission's secretary, said.

Yudhoyono, who served as president from 2004 to 2014, took over the party'€™s leadership in 2013 from Anas Urbaningrum after the latter was named a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The party later appointed senior member and then cooperatives and small and medium enterprises minister Syariefuddin '€œSyarief'€ Hasan as executive chairman to help Yudhoyono run the party's day-to-day activities.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, congress participants unanimously reelected Yudhoyono to lead the party again for the next five years. (nvn)
