he Communications and Information Ministry will cooperate with the National Police to block websites that offer prostitution-related services.
Online prostitution has attracted attention following the murder of Deudeuh Alfisahrin, who was found dead in a rented room in Tebet, South Jakarta, on April 11, 2015. She was believed to have been killed by one of her clients.
Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara claimed that rampant prostitution practices using online services was being promoted through various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Blackberry Messenger.
"It is easy to block internet websites propagating prostitution services, but those operating through social media are hard to do," he said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Regarding clandestine prostitution being carried out in places of entertainment, and lodging and boarding houses, the National Police have sought better cooperation from the public to report such practices. (hhr)
