he Jakarta administration has allocated Rp 409 billion (US$31.49 million) to renovate the Velodrome Sports Complex, in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, which will become one of the venues for the 2019 Asian Games.
Youth and Sports Agency head Zaenal Soelaiman said Wednesday that the renovations, starting next month, would be included in the multi-year program, which will be completed in mid-2017.
'We will renovate the venue in accordance with the standards set by the Olympic Committee of Asia [OCA]. Standardization is one of the requirements of the Asian Games,' he said, as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that Rp 9 billion had been set aside for planning and Rp 400 billion for the actual development.
Besides the cycling track, the sports complex will feature Olympic-sized sport facilities including tennis courts and swimming pools.
Zaenal said the renovation of the complex was the only one of the Asian Games projects handled by the agency.
'The renovation of Gelora Bung Karno stadium in South Jakarta and Pulomas horse racing track in East Jakarta will be handled by the central government and city-owned property developer PT Pulo Mas Jaya, while the construction of the athlete's village in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, will be handled by city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo,' he said.
