he Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), together with kitabisa.com, a website focused on crowd-funding campaigns, on Tuesday launched a blood donor bus bought with funds procured online starting in the middle of last year.
The campaign 'Photos for Life', which was supported not only by the public, but also several groups ' such as Blood for Life, Bike to Work, Young on Top, Indonesia Expat ' managed to raise Rp 525 million (US$40,238) for the bus.
Those who donated more than Rp 100,000 will have their 'selfies' displayed on the bus's interior, said the Indonesian Red Cross in a press release, adding that the bus symbolized the power of a united public to effect change and save lives.
Currently, Indonesia can meet only 70 percent of the World Health Organization's blood bank standard, according to the Indonesian Red Cross. The organization tries to recruit prospective donors by holding blood-donor events at shopping malls, offices, mosques and churches using their donor buses.
