s many as 55 state Islamic universities would participate in Science, Sports, Arts and Research Week (Pionir) in Palu, Central Sulawesi, from May 18 to May 23, an official said on Wednesday.
Palu State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Rector Zainal Abidin revealed that some 2,669 participants, including officials and coaches, had arrived in the city, joining several sport competitions, such as wall climbing, badminton, volleyball, futsal, table tennis and pencak silat martial art.
Some of the participants also joined Islamic pop singing and calligraphy contests as well as a Koran memorizing competition.
Besides the competitions, Zainal said the participants also visited tourist destinations in Palu, such as Talise beach and the Public Recreation Center.
