he city'€™s Culture and Tourism Agency will organize the 5th Siti Nurbaya Festival from May 21 to May 30, featuring Minangkabau traditional arts and culture, including boat racing.

Agency head Dian Fakri said on Thursday that the traditional Selaju Sampan boat race had been unseen for 20 years, and would be enlivened again on the second day of the festival.

'€œAs many as 60 teams will participate in traditional boat racing which will be conducted in the Batang Arau River,'€ Fakri said.

Besides the boat racing, several other contests would be held during the festival, such as menggiling lado (grinding chilis for curry), malamang (making lamang sticky rice in bamboo), mangukua karambia (making coconut milk using traditional tools) and areca nut juice making.
