ndonesian Military (TNI) commander Gen. Moeldoko says that security in the country is stable and that political uncertainty is only a problem for members of the elite.

'€œConfusion only affects the elites and political leaders who are competing for the leadership of their parties, at the grassroots level the situation is very conducive,'€ Moeldoko said during a meeting with university students in Bengkulu on Wednesday.

Moeldoko also said that the media was to blame for running stories about political problems affecting the country.

He called on members of the public not to get carried away by the stories.

'€œConflict is only occurring among the political elites and so people must not be influenced by it,'€ he said.

Moeldoko also praised the National Police for maintaining security.

As for the economic slowdown, Moeldoko said the government could only do so much to mitigate the problem as it also affected most countries in the world.
