Your letters: Graft convicts deserve execution

I

refer to an article titled '€œJokowi says he'€™s no coward,'€ (The Jakarta Post, May 17, p2).

As a person living in Indonesia, yes, I do agree with and respect the laws of Indonesia because I was educated to do so. If you speak as an educated man, Pak, may I ask do you walk the walk as you talk the talk, regarding examples from your past six months?

I agree with the law on executing drug traffickers, as they are killing our people. What about the police, Army and people with money to bribe the authorities who have been caught red handed with drugs? Are they going to be handed the same sentence? If '€œyes'€, we the people would then see if you are not a coward, because when it would be time for this to be carried out you would be long gone.

May I just explain that red handed means guilty without doubt, no questions asked. So they should go straight to the firing squad and we would then see if the firing squad can squeeze the trigger if it'€™s one of their own.

Well on this we can see that you have taken the power of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and handed it to groups that are corrupt protecting the same corrupt individuals who are robbing the country and its people as well as killing our people with their contacts in drugs.

I agree on having downstream manufacturing or value adding. No issues. May I ask what about first getting the policy right with infrastructure such as power, roads, ports etc. to support the law in place before implementing the law?

Currently, our country goes back to an exchange rate of Rp 13,000, a trade deficit on exports of minerals which creates revenue (taxes) for our country and our people who you say that you put first.

I am sure that you must have a very bad memory and speak in public to the uneducated that your past leaders have not supported to educate, which may also apply to current policy makers under your control. Get some educated people who are truly educated with only one thing in mind, Indonesia and its people, not in their pockets or supporting a government party that does not care for either of these values.
