he search is on for a drug inmate who appears to have been mistakenly released from Kerobokan Prison in Denpasar.
The inmate, who was imprisoned after being found guilty in a drugs case, was being pursued by the Denpasar Police after his release last Friday.
The prison official who made the error has also been questioned by personnel from the Law and Human Rights Ministry's local office.
Denpasar Police chief Sr. Comr. Anak Agung Made Sudana said on Thursday that his team was still working on finding the inmate, identified as CA.
The Denpasar Police, Sudana said, had yet to receive an official report from prison.
'They have yet to issue a report in the case, but we are working to help the prison catch him,' Sudana said.
Sudana, however, refused to say how the manhunt was progressing but added that his team was doing its best.
Meanwhile, Badung Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Tony Binsar also said there had been no report from Kerobokan prison.
'I think the Denpasar Police are handling the case. We didn't receive any report,' Tony said.
Kerobokan prison warden Sudjonggo said the prison had also set up a team to search for the inmate.
'We hope we can find him soon,' he said.
Sudjonggo added that a team from the Law and Human Rights Ministry's directorate general for corrections was also working on the case.
'There has been an examination of the prison today, carried out by the directorate general of corrections. They are making al the necessary checks,' he said.
The examination, he said, also included talking to the prison's member of staff in charge of administration, who was deemed responsible for the incident.
When asked whether the individual had deliberately released the wrong inmate, Sudjonggo said it was still being investigated.
However, he admitted that negligence had been committed.
'There was negligence. The member of staff should have checked the details of the inmate to be released, including the photo that was attached in the document,' he said.
On May 15, Kerobokan prison released CA, who had served two of his nine-year sentence.
The prison staff should have released another inmate, also known by the initials CA, who had completed a seven-month prison term for theft.
Sudjonggo said that both inmates had similar names and both were from East Java.
The prison staff realized the mistake had been made after the inmate who was supposed to be released asked a prison guard why he had not been called to see the prison staff about his impending release.
